MIT SIPB Script Services for Athena

How can I reliably send email from Scripts?

Once every while, a Scripts account will be compromised and begin sending spam directly from the Scripts service, causing our servers to become blacklisted and thereby affecting other users’ ability to send email. To get around this, users should send their emails in other ways. There are many options – here are a couple to get started:

1. Send email via SMTP to outgoing.mit.edu:25, which is trivial to set up and does not require an account.
2. Set up an email account with an external provider (such as GMail) and send email through them.
3. Use an email delivery/transactional email service (SparkPost, SendGrid), many of which have a free tier and are targeted at developers, typically offering not just SMTP but some form of API as well to send email.
