   2 WordPress saves the URL to use to access it in its configuration.
   3 If you move the directory you installed WordPress into or start
   4 using a
   5 [short URL](http://scripts.mit.edu/faq/14/do-cnames-work-with-the-script-service "like MY_GROUP.mit.edu")
   6 without first updating that URL, you may accidentally lock yourself
   7 out of the WordPress admin interface.

   9 To update the stored URL:

  11 1.  Wait until you’re ready to start using the new URL. In
  12     particular, if you’re requesting a new hostname (like
  13     MY\_GROUP.mit.edu), wait until the Scripts team contacts you to
  14     tell you that the new hostname is working, and confirm that
  15     http://MY\_GROUP.mit.edu/ works. If you don’t wait, you will lock
  16     yourself out of the WordPress admin interface.
  17 2.  Log into the WordPress admin interface using the old URL
  18 3.  Select the “Settings” link in the sidebar
  19 4.  Make “Blog address (URL)” blank and change “WordPress address
  20     (URL)” to the address you want to be able to access it at.
  21 5.  You may get a “404 Not Found” message when you save the
  22     changes. This is likely not a problem, and you should see if
  23     finishing the move fixes it.
  24 6.  Once you move the PHP scripts in AFS or your new hostname gets
  25     activated, you should be able to use the new URL
