Maple Walnut Scones

  • 3 1/2 cups flour
  • 4 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2/3 cups butter
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup maple syrup

  • Preheat oven to 425 deg. F
  • Combine dry ingredients and mix together well
  • Add butter and mix until coarse crumbs are created
  • Separately, combine milk and syrup
  • Add wet ingredients to dry ones to form wet dough
  • Flour surface generously
  • Divide dough in half
  • Pat down each half into 7 inch circles about 7/8 inches thick
  • Cut dough circles into 8 even pieces (like pie)
  • Move slices onto greased baking sheet setting them so they re-form the original circle shape (slightly separated)
  • Pierce with fork and brush with maple syrup
  • Bake until golden (12-14 min) and brush with maple syrup again

(a variation can be made by adding lemon zest to the dough)
