MIT INDIA READING GROUP:About
From MIT INDIA READING GROUP
MIT India Reading Group (MIRG) was started in the Summers of 2006 at MIT. The first meeting was held on June 10, 2006. The purpose of the group is to do an academic study of India-centric socio-economic issues and form an online resource of India-related information. The group holds its meetings at MIT, Cambridge, MA every week during vacations and once every two weeks during semesters. All the meeting papers and notes are documented on this website. Talks with other organizations are generally not put for general consumption.
The group meetings are attended by approximately 8 to 12 people, while it maintains a mailing list of more than 50 members. Mailing-list subscription and meetings are open to all including MIT and non-MIT affliates.
The group also takes part in advocacy and activism, given an opportunity and time budget of the members. We are always excited to hear from interested individuals and organizations and help them in whatever way we can.
The group dedicated the Summers and Fall of 2006 in studying the Primary Education System of India. The topic discussed in Spring 2007 was Indian Innovation System and currently the group is discussing Public Health in India.
The founder and first coordinator of MIRG was Varun Aggarwal (PhD student, MIT). The group has expanded in its reach by the formation of Berkeley India Reading Group (BIRG) [1].
Note: It will be more appropriate to call the group, MIT India Study Group, but we have decided not to re-christen it.
