Fitting - 2 - Poisson Statistics

In this podcast, we talk about using the Poisson distribution in fits where bins have fewer than ten counts. As an example, I’ve generated 100 data sets for the muon lifetime experiment and fit each one using Gaussion and Poisson statistics. The Gaussian fit has a mean fit value of 2.02 microsconds, while the Poisson has 2.29 microseconds. These are for the same data sets generated with a 2.2 microsecond muon lifetime.
