Students and Faculty, In 2006, the Physics Graduate Student Council administered a survey to graduate students concerning the general exam system at MIT. The results of the quantitative part of this survey, along with a report describing the qualitative parts, are attached to this post.
Also attached is a report that compares and contrasts the exam system at MIT with that of ten other top physics programs in the US. Finally, a third file, that includes an entire past exam from each of these universities (if it was available), has also been attached. The file is large, but the PGSC believed that it was important to provide example problems in the larger context of the exam itself. It has been our pleasure compiling this information for the community. We hope that these reports continue to stimulate discussion about the exam system at MIT, as well as effectively illustrate the opinions of the current student body. Sincerely, David Guarrera President, Physics Graduate Student Council Survey Results Comparison with Other Institutions Sample Exams |
