We will be hosting our annual trip to Acadia National Park over Memorial Day weekend May 25-28. Acadia is on a beautiful island in Maine with hiking, rock climbing, cycling, kayaking, canoeing, swimming, beach bumming, lobster eating, and relaxing. It is approximately 5-6 hours from Boston. MITOC reserves a campground at Bass Harbor but there will not be many MITOC organized trips. Participants are expected to bring their own food, camping gear (some available to rent at MITOC), plans, and equipment. Here are some more ideas for things to do at Acadia: http://www.acadiamagic.com/Park.html Camping is $26/person for the weekend (there are no \\\\\\\"daily\\\\\\\" rates). Space is limited to 45. You must pay for camping online (credit card) when you sign up for the trip. Signing up and paying is a commitment, there are no refunds.
Beginner trip from launch close to campground, either at Seal Cove or upper Somes Sound. For Acadia trip participants. Trip will run from 2 pm to ~ 7 pm, which includes launch time and post trip time. Proper dress is absolutely required, which mean non cotton leg and upper body covering for paddling on cold Atlantic water. Flipping isn\'t common, but you must be ready for it in any case. I do need to keep the group together and do ask for moderate athleticism.

Talk Description: With this slideshow presentation, Hannah will show photos and tell funny stories about some of the major rock climbing sites in China and Southeast Asia, including: Yangshuo, Getu (the site of the 2011 Petzl Roc Trip), Halong Bay (Vietnam), Kunming-area rock climbing, and Guoliang Park in Henan Province. This slideshow will seek to showcase both the interesting cultural exchanges as well as fantastic rock climbing opportunities that China has to offer.
Speaker Bio: Hannah Waight graduated from Harvard College in 2010 (Double BA in East Asian Studies and Rock Climbing) and then set off for a year of studying Chinese, eating delicious food, and having adventures in rock climbing in southeast China/Asia. She was based in Kunming at Yunnan University, but traveled extensively in greater Yunnan, Guizhou, Guangxi, and Henan Provinces, as well as in Vietnam. Hannah put on her first harness at the age of nine, but began \"seriously\" climbing through the Harvard Mountaineering Club during her freshman year in college. She loves all types of climbing, but especially types that allow her to hang upside down. Besides personal climbing, Hannah has also dabbled in professional instructing through various outfitters.
