Are you an MIT or Wellesley student, staff member, alumnus or affiliate? Interested in learning more about our award-winning team? Check out Dance Camp: a Ballroom crash-course aimed at complete beginners!
No partner is necessary. No experience is necessary. No registration is necessary. These classes are free, and we'll even feed you! We want to keep a fun and open environment. Just come check us out to see if the team is right for you. You don't need to bring anything. You aren't making any commitment to the team by coming. Just come get some free food and learn some new moves! The classes are taught by professional dance instructors. You don't need to attend them all - just come when you have time. Everyday clothes are fine, but it's best to avoid wearing sandals. After each class, there will be performances by team members. We will also tell you everything you need to know about the team. On Saturday there is a mock competition - but don't worry! You will be dancing with an experienced team member and you will be competing in teams of multiple couples. It's fun! Ode to dancers:
Shall I regale thee of a summer’s day? No Boston chill, the night still fair and temperate, When dancers come to Waltz the night away, September sixth, we know you’ll keep the date.
Often, too hot the eye of heaven shined, But never did our love for dancing dim, Nor will the joy of Waltz ever decline When oe’r the floor go flying, her and him.
So join us then and move as dancers proud, At half to eight, a lesson, then begin No partner nor experience needeth thou, Just love of dance and dreams of sway and spin.
So long as follows one and one doth lead, So long lives dance in th’halls of MIT!
Date: September 6, 2008 (give or take 400 years) Time: American Waltz lesson: 7:30 pm (free with admission) Dance: 8:00 pm - 11:55 pm General Dancing Location: Morss Hall, Walker Memorial (Building 50 - 143 Memorial Dr.)
Admission: General Admission: $10 Students: $6 Adult Team Members: $5 Student Team Members: $3 FREE with a ribbon from the Royal Dance Competition (the Mock Comp during Dance Camp) It's time to drive off your standing foot into a whole new season!
