Got back from the Cape today a few hours ago. It was a fun weekend, even counting the fact that I’m still sick and I got sun burned.
We left at around 8pm on Friday night, and hung around in the motel for the rest of the evening. Saturday, we got up early, Sean Morton cooked french toast, eggs, and bacon, and then we headed out into Provincetown. There is a nice shuttle that stopped at the hotel to take us to town, and it only costs $1. Provincetown was just as touristy as I would have expected, but what was interesting to see was how prominent the LGBT community is there. I have interesting pictures from our brief walk through the main part of town that I will post at some point. They are pretty funny, but I feel like some of them are hardly things for virgin eyes!
After walking through Provincetown and scoping out potential dinner spots, we walked about 2mi to Race Point Beach. The Beach was really pretty, and it was great to feel sand on my feet and between my toes again. Even though the water was pretty cold, many of us went swimming anyway, and then everyone buried me in the sand and gave me a new…uh, interesting, body. It was really fun, although I felt sheepish afterwards because I was completely covered in sand, and hadn’t brought a towel. There was only a freezing cold shower in the changing room to clean up with, so I still had sand all over me on the walk back. There are pictures of my sand body that I’ll post when I get my hands on them.
We took the shuttle back to “P town”, grabbed ice cream, and took another shuttle over to the motel to freshen up before dinner. Dinner was at Moby Dicks’ Restaurant, a reasonably nice sea food restaurant with a covered patio. I don’t really like sea food, but it worked out okay for me because I saved a lot of money that way. After dinner, we went over to a local drive in movie theater and saw Ratatouille. The movie was absolutely adorable and really a lot of fun. I had never been to a drive in theater before; it was a nice experience, relatively inexpensive, and it seemed like many of the people there were veterans at this sort of thing. They sat outside in lawn chairs and blankets. Despite the fact that it was technically a double feature with Pirates 3, we went back to the hotel and played cards for a while.
The next morning, we had breakfast again, after which we began our mini golf “crawl”. We wound up going to two separate mini golf courses. One was relatively close to the motel we stayed at, and the other was closer to Hyannis. It was a total blast; putt putt is serious business. We stopped at Friendly’s before heading back to Cambridge, and we were all disappointed but not surprised when the service sucked pretty bad. After that, we just headed home, where I discovered that I had accidentally left my alarm on the entire weekend, and Sandstorm had been blaring the entire time. Oops.
Later in the evening, I watched Half Nelson, and it kinda sucked. There was lots of character development I guess, but nothing actually happened in the movie. Ah well. I’m pretty exhausted from the trip, and am off to take more cough pills.
