snow blocks

Wednesday, December 24th, 2008

i have been walking on the streets kicking snow balls. it is painful. yes. you can be in danger. but is worth it. back in the days i used to kick cans and paper rolls and coins and little stones and plastic bottles. that is the way you do it in the tropical countries. you kick everything is in the floor. like lids of soda bottles. you are so familiar to them. just litter. just kick! detritus. kick them and play. it used to be fun. it is a good soccer training exercise. but now i just hurt my feet. becAuse i kicked too much. i kicked to many things on the street and the sidewalks. too much snow. i kecked a giant snow ball that was actually a block of ice so compact and heavy that almost breaks my feet. i had my winter boots but that was not enough. my finger is swalloing and my nail is turning purple and violet. it hurts. this is snow world. strange. el mundo de la nieve.blanco y gris y negro. gray and dirty. what planet is this? i am not sure. icy earth.

snowing silence

Friday, December 19th, 2008

it started at 2pm and stopped one hour ago. 6 hours of storm. freezer is ON. and we are entering the refrigerador state. wind and gust colored with white grains. walking under such weather phenomenon is always nice. powder falling. actually the storm is back again. i just went to my kitchen for a cup of tea and realized the white grains were outside the window, dancing in the air, moving in all directions, floating. today’s snow was very pointy and produced tickles in your face. in your nose. walking and moving the snow was visual pleasant. granular ice for the eyes. el mundo de la nieve. snow word before it freezes. lovely white cold sand as silent white dust. so soft that every time you kicked it did not make any sound. silent as a calm night.

lluvia + nieve

Wednesday, December 17th, 2008

here it comes again. snow. it is still not the refrigerator. el congelador. but is almost there. almost on. tonight snow is falling in cambridge. snow mixed with rain as the famous song of ismael rivera says. lluvia con nieve ♫. the town will start to turn into a freezer. and white little flakes will fall, day after day until all the streets will be a white and thick carpet. the first days will be white indeed. the next days will be just gray. and with more time the ice will be just a sort of dirty muddy dusty black detritus. snow white to dirty muddy. maybe a metaphor of life around here. it will be also very dangerous. you gotta be careful if you are in a rush walking in the sidewalks. i remember my last year fall. in a very slapstick style doing a flip. falling into my buttocks. icy and slippery. tonight is rain with snow. tomorrow and the next days will be less water and more ice. that is how it is around here. new england harsh weather. not very comfortable and perhaps one of the reasons of the coldish human social interactions.

time-space distortion

Saturday, December 6th, 2008

yesterday, while having a dinner around a dinning table in the Mary Chung restaurant of central square i came up with a very nice ad-libbing explanation of the emaitinian distortion of time/space. i tried to explain to my friends that one of the reasons mit people does not go far away the institute buildings and tunnels is because there is a sort of hole time/space deformation. the fact that emaitinians have so many things to do around on campus and in computers and in labs totally makes any move across the river, or across mass ave a huge transatlantic displacement. the gravity of the institute is massive. and you cannot scape. if you do, you feel like an astronaut coming back. it happen to me when i came back after long trips to colombia during the awful newenglander winters. it happen to me in the summer when i went to revere beach riding my bike.
