rolling down the infinite
Tuesday, September 30th, 2008imagine a system of tubes filled with people rolling down in a hurry. very crowded at the traffic jam hours. say the minutes surrounding 10am, 11am, 12am. corridors, tubes, tunnels, passages where you must move fast, with the current. it is just the flow. among all of this passages, the infinite is one of my favorites. it is not infinite dough. of course not. i remember it took me a while to realize how to walk without stopping to say hello to the people i just pass by. even more difficult was to learn how to put your eyes in infinite focus so you dont have to recognize other people while you walk through it. while you flow in a rush. at some point i even found easy to perform this unfocus by avoiding wearing my glasses. it worked very well. since last summer i decided to change the speed any time i walk through the infinite. it is a nice experience. specially because it can feel so slow even if it is not due to the velocity that other bodies have when they are inside the corridor. a snail in the infinite. there is a legend of how cybernetics theoretician Norbert Wiener used to walk, used to roll down the infinite. he put a finger close to one of the walls and walked as if he was drawing an imaginary line.
