The Route
The Boston to Santa Barbara (B2SB) route is new this year. We’ll start in Boston, MA on June 11 and end in Santa Barbara, CA on August 15. The entire trip is 3,656 miles, and we’ll average about 70 miles of cycling a day.
Our adventure starts in Boston. After dipping our wheels in the Atlantic Ocean, we’ll head west across the Berkshire Mountains of western Massachusetts, and over the Appalachian Mountains in Pennsylvania. We’ll have a day off in Pittsburgh, and then continue through Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois to St. Louis, MO. Once we cross the Mississippi, we’ll turn southwest, paralleling the classic US Route 66 to the south rim of the Grand Canyon. Then, we’ll cross the Hoover Dam to Las Vegas and ride across the Mojave Desert to reach California and our final destination of beautiful Santa Barbara.
Along the way, we’ll stop to build houses in Andover, MA, Poughkeepsie, NY, Columbus, OH, Springfield, MO, Tulsa, OK, Amarillo, TX, Flagstaff, AZ, Las Vegas, NV, and Santa Barbara, CA. In addition, at every location we stop at for the evening, we’ll give presentations to the local community about Bike & Build and affordable housing issues, or hold bike-safety clinics for children.
During the trip, you’ll be able to track our progress online. More details about the route, including the itinerary and roster, are available on the official Bike & Build website.
