About Bike & Build

Bike & Build is an independent 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to the affordable housing cause. The organization runs cycling trips to raise money that is donated to various affordable housing organizations, including Habitat for Humanity, Rebuilding Together, Common Ground, and COVER Home Repair. Over the last five years, Bike and Build has contributed $1,144,231 (~50% of proceeds) to affordable housing projects. The remaining income is spent on administrative and trip costs. For more details on how your donations are spent, take a look at Bike & Build’s financial snapshot and contribution breakdown.

Bike & Build was founded in 2002 by Marc Bush. Marc was a former of leader of the Yale Habitat Bicycle Challenge, and wanted to expand upon the program. The first two routes, Northern US and Central US, were launched in the summer of 2003. Since then, the organization has grown, adding a new route every summer. This summer, Bike & Build will be running seven trips with over 210 riders in an effort to raise over $420,000 for affordable housing.

Mission Statement
Bike & Build is pedaling to end poverty housing. Through fund-raising cycling trips, Bike & Build raises money for and awareness of affordable housing efforts. Our events act as a catalyst to build homes, foster the spirit of service, and empower young adults… mile by mile, house by house.

Guiding Principles
We are young, and we can change the world. Young adults are capable of incredible things. Bike & Build’s events unlock the potential of young adults to do good work. We strive to encourage our participants to test their limits, reach their potential, and affect change. Our energy is contagious, and there is much to be done.

Safety is our top priority. During our events, the health and safety of our participants is paramount. In our first five years, Bike & Build participants cycled an aggregate of 2.2M+ miles without a serious injury or accident.

We work on a tight budget. Contributors have a right to demand – and we have a responsibility to ensure – that we be good stewards of the money entrusted to us. We are constantly looking for and implementing innovative ways to increase our effectiveness as a fundraiser.
