Martinet 1.2

The Martinet is a type of Swift that inhabits the south of France during the summer season. It perches on mountainside cliffs and trees but never lands on the ground. While I was in France, there were many of these birds around. The nice arched wing shape and the split tail feathers just begged to be folded. This model was folded from 6" American foil.

The structure of this model is mainly a stretched bird base with a graft of paper running through the diagonal to allow for the beak and tail feathers. The structure is simple, yet the middle portion of the paper is taken up by the pleating and wasted. I have to use that extra middle paper to provide for feathers, but I have found that it takes away from the flowing characteristic that is so present in the martinet.
