Eco-Friendly Thinking from Saratoga Springs InvenTeam
Hello All -After checking out the recent post to the InvenTeam MegaBlog a few of the Saratoga Springs HS InvenTeam members and I did a little brain storming which led to a discussion about the environment, global climate change, and other important issues effecting us today and will effect us tomorrow. Being the engineers of tomorrow these major issues will soon become the basis of some our future studies and careers.
In response to your first question, most definitely. Not only will technology solve environmental problems in the future but there are many new technology start-ups solving these critical problems today. People like Frank Pringle are turning everyday junk into oil and gas. Corporations like Google are taking advantage of new technologies to help the environment. Even at the Consumer Electronics Show tons of companies showed off their new green devices.
Obviously technology is only growing greener and greener and eco-friendly engineering will be a major part of our future careers. As for your second question, we at Saratoga Springs HS are inventing a device that will help protect and restore the environment. The Garden Consultant will allow home gardeners to plant the right plants for their personal environment rather than change their environment to suit their plants. This is better for the environment and helps produce more healthy O2 producing plants that are great for the environment.
In response to the third question, hands on learning experiences like this InvenTeam project and the Project Lead the Way program we have here at our high school are awesome.Project-based learning helps us as students better understand what we are learning and gives us a greater grasp on the subject material. Our experience as an InvenTeam has been awesome and we are having a great time inventing the Garden Consultant. Not only are we going to finish this year having invented a soil-testing and plant-matching device, but we will also have gained new skills like computer programming, database manipulation, and web-site design that we will use for years to come. This has been a great experience and we at the Saratoga Springs HS InvenTeam could not be more grateful for what we have been awarded. I hope everyone else’s projects are going well and we all look forward to meeting you all this June. Thanks -Elliott Poppel
