The National Academy of Engineering has culminated a list of the top engineering challenges for the 21st century. Visit the web site, www.engineeringchallenges.org, to read about the problems that they have identified to be in most need of solutions, and vote for the one you think is the most important challenge.
You can also learn about the committee of “leading thinkers” behind the challenge, which includes many prominent inventors and Lemelson-MIT Award winners, such Dean Kamen, Ray Kurzweil and Robert Langer.
