The Virtual Browsery (Beta) » Welcome

Welcome

If you are a return visitor to the MIT Humanities Library Virtual Browsery, we hope you enjoy the new look and features of the site. If this is your first visit, welcome!

What will you find on the revamped Virtual Browsery site? The Virtual Browsery offers an ongoing selection of titles, highlighting new as well as topical books. Two or three titles will be posted every weekday.

In addition to highlighting new books on the Humanities Browsery shelves, the Virtual Browsery highlights other Humanities collections, such as biographies and prizewinners. In the “Hidden in the Stacks” category, library staff also feature some of our favorite works.

This redesign also introduces several new features such as:

• Informative book reviews. (Note that access to reviews is restricted to MIT community only and requires authentication.)
• Information about the availability of the book in the Humanities Library. (Click on “Is this book available in the Humanities Library?”)
• Lists of other books by that author owned by the Humanities Library.
• RSS feeds, allowing you to subscribe to regular updates.

If the Humanities Library copy of the title you would like is unavailable, click on “Find in another Local Library” to locate a copy in another library in the Boston area. With a BLC card, MIT graduate students and faculty, as well as undergraduates who need items for research or coursework, can borrow directly from many of these libraries.

Literature engenders conversation. If you have read one of our featured books, please share your thoughts using the easy-access Comments link or respond to someone else’s post. Comments are restricted to members of the MIT Community, creating a trusted network of informal conversation. There are additionally buttons that allow you to bookmark each title in your own Del.icio.us or Technorati accounts.

Welcome to the Virtual Browsery and happy reading!
