now live, direct from hell (i.e., streaming from the internets), a distorted reality!
a distorted reality focuses on “indie,” and “independent” music primarily as practices of ‘do it youself’ music making, rather than specific aesthetics, or particular sounds, thereby immersing listeners into an amalgam of widely varying genres of independently produced music, including, though certainly not limited to, pop, post-punk/rock, experimental, noise rock, punk, electronic, hip-hop, (alt-)country, blues, garage rock, and even folk. A selection of artists from each category, might include the likes of: early Elliott Smith, Godspeed You Black Emperor!, Deerhunter, Serena Maneesh, Mission of Burma, The Blow, Dizzee Rascal, Silver Jews, Junior Kimbrough, Jucifer, and the trusty standby, Woody Guthrie. There will be a general effort to avoid playing artists directly associated with major labels (during the time at which the music was originally recorded), not as a judgment of their music, but in recognition of the fact that they already receive enough radio play. On-air banter will be limited to introducing/recapping music played, as well as occasionally mentioning the independent label of a particular release (esp. if it’s more obscure). a distorted reality is ultimately about the music, so listen, and enjoy…
