In the lobby by the Great Fire. I met just now a man from Nebraska who is here on safari (that means hunting for African game). He told me about a beautiful animal with spirally horns and beautiful chocolate brown breast plumage that he “took” and will have shipped home along with other conquests. “Wait until my wife sees my taxidermy bills”, he said. His wife is upstairs now in the upper seating area of the Farm Inn with a diamond sales person — they come to you … with a selection of diamonds (and a couple of giant body guards) … and … what? I don’t even have a mental picture of what might be happening upstairs — so I pointed out that he might be able to redirect her taxidermy attention to her diamond bill which will probably be pretty high too.

I can’t even relate. He asked how long I’ve been here and what I do and it’s like we’re aliens with no common ground. How wealthy is this guy, or is this a Big Blowout Vacation affordable because his Nebraska living needs are low? Could I imagine a $20k+ vacation of 3 weeks? I guess it’d be possible if I had different financial priorities. Even still, I can’t relate.
