ACCORDING TO THE TRADITION, ON JANUARY 6TH, THE THREE WISE MEN VISITED THE NEW BORN JESUS AND GAVE HIM PRESENTS. TO COMMEMORATE THIS EVENT, WE EAT A TRADITIONAL BREAD (”ROSCA DE REYES”) WITH A HIDDEN TINY PLASTIC BABY JESUS INSIDE (YES, YOU FIND IT AS YOU EAT THE BREAD). THE PERSON WHO GETS THE BABY JESUS IN HIS/HER SLICE OF BREAD HAS TO THROW A TAMALE PARTY THE FOLLOWING FEBRUARY.

THIS YEAR THE LCC (LATINO CULTURAL CENTER), GSC AND CLUBMEX GOT THE BABY JESUS. THEREFORE…

Este es el último Post de la mesa directiva de ClubMex del 2007-08 - nos despedimos de ustedes y le damos la bienvenida a la mesa directiva del próximo año académico.

ClubMex organizó muchos eventos exitosos este año. Nos gustó mucho poder organizar todo esto, y trabajar para ClubMex - esperamos que hayan disfrutado los eventos y que hayamos fortalecido la comunidad mexicana en MIT. Para más detalles, pueden ver nuestro reporte de actividades, que esta en la sección:  Former Executive Boards.

También queremos anunciar a la nueva mesa directiva para el año académico 2008-2009, que a partir de ahora estará a cargo de ClubMex y sus actividades:

Hola,

El tiempo ha pasado muy rápido, y el fin del año escolar ya está 
prácticamente aquí. Y por lo tanto, necesitamos una nueva mesa 
directiva para ClubMex.
 Ha sido un gusto organizar todo tipo de eventos para ClubMex, y  
esperamos que los hayan disfrutado. Creemos que hemos creado muy  
buena energía, y nos gustaría ver que eso continuara.

 Necesitamos gente que nos releve el próximo año y haga de ClubMex lo 
que crean que deba y pueda ser. Queremos que nos releven… queremos 
que se siga creando esa buena energía y que la comunidad mexicana en  
MIT siga fortaleciéndose.

Comuníquense con nosotros para involucrarse en ClubMex. Cualquier  
pregunta que tengan, avísen. Estar metidos en esto ha sido una  
experiencia muy padre, y en realidad no es muy complicado… no le 
tengan miedo! Se van a divertir!

Come and Celebrate “5 de mayo” with us!!!!. This is our last reunion of the semester, so please come, there will be free food too!!!

 On May 5th we celebrate the Puebla Battle, during which the french army that tried to conquest Mexico and bring back colonialism to America, was defeated  (no hard feelings for french people).

El evento consistirá en una pequeña presentación, seguida por una discusión moderada por el Dr. Aguirre. Hemos invitado a varios profesores e investigadores mexicanos en MIT, así como otras personas que están muy involucradas con México – como pueden ver varias personas ya nos han confirmado su asistencia. También se le ha hecho la invitación a mexicanos que trabajan en Boston. Además de ser una gran oportunidad para tratar este tema, el evento será una oportunidad increíble para conocer a toda la comunidad mexicana del MIT – y no solo a los estudiantes. Un poco de “networking” no le cae mal a nadie…

BIOGRAFIA DR. GUILLERMO AGUIRRE:
Dr. Guillermo Aguirre Esponda, diseñador, investigador, alto ejecutivo, consultor empresarial y funcionario público, y creador del Enfoque Apodíctico del Diseño y la Innovación. Ha aplicado este sistema en algunas de las organizaciones más grandes del mundo para diseñar productos, procesos y modelos de negocios que han generado millones de dólares en ingresos sostenibles de nuevos negocios. El Dr. Aguirre fue Director de Tecnología del CONACYT del 2000 al 2006, en donde trabajó para incentivar la innovación y el desarrollo tecnológico en el sector productivo mexicano. Bajo su responsabilidad se quintuplicó la inversión privada en Ciencia y Tecnología en México, y se diseño un Sistema Nacional de Innovación. Actualmente, el Dr. Aguirre es Director del Grupo de Innovación Aguirre, así como Director-Fundador de LatIPnet, la Red Latina de Innovación y Negocios. Obtuvo su doctorado en la Universidad de Cambridge, una Maestría en Tecnología de la Universidad de Loughdorough y otra en Diseño en la Facultad de Ingeniería de la Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM), donde se graduó originalmente como Ingeniero Mecánico Electricista.

Juan Enriquez, bestselling author, businessman, and academic, is recognized as one of the world’s leading authorities on the economic and political impacts of life sciences. He is currently Chairman and CEO of Biotechonomy LLC, a life sciences research and investment firm. He was the Founding Director of the Harvard Business School Life Sciences Project, and author of the global bestseller As the Future Catches You: How Genomics & Other Forces are Changing Your Life, Work, Health & Wealth. (Selected by Amazon’s editors as one of the best business books of the year). His latest book, The Untied States of America: Polarization, Fracturing, and Our Future, which explores why some countries are successful while others disappear, was published by Crown Business in November of 2005.

He has published several key articles including, “Transforming Life, Transforming Business: the Life Science Revolution,” co-authored with Ray Goldberg, which received a McKinsey Prize in 2000 (2nd place). He co-authored the first map of global nucleotide data flow as well as HBS working papers on “Life Sciences in Arabic Speaking Countries”, “Global Life Science Data Flows and the IT industry”, “SARS, Smallpox, and Business Unusual,” and “Technology, Gene Research and National Competitiveness.” Harvard Business School Interactive picked Juan as one of the best teachers at HBS and showcased his work in its first set of faculty products.

The Harvard Business Review showcased his ideas as one of the breakthrough concepts in its first HBR List. Fortune profiled him as Mr. Gene. Time asked him to co-organize the life sciences summit commemorating the fiftieth anniversary of the discovery of DNA. Seed picked his ideas as one of fifty that “shaped our identity, our culture, and the world as we know it.”

Mr. Enriquez serves on a variety of boards including Cabot Corporation, The Harvard Medical School Genetics Advisory Council, The Chairman’s International Council of the Americas Society, the Visiting Committee of Harvard’s David Rockefeller Center, Tufts University’s EPIIC, Harvard Business School’s PAPSAC, and the J. Craig Venter Institute.

Juan was also part of a world discovery voyage led by Craig Venter, who sequenced the human genome. The multi-stage sailing voyage sampled microbial genomes throughout the world’s oceans. This expedition involved a number of institutions and top scholars including The Institute for Genomic Research, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute, The Explorers Club, and Prof. E.O. Wilson. It led to the discovery of an unprecedented number of new species.

He previously served as CEO of Mexico City’s Urban Development Corporation, Coordinator General of Economic Policy and Chief of Staff for Mexico’s Secretary of State, and as a member of the Peace Commission that negotiated the cease-fire in Chiapas’ Zapatista rebellion.

He earned a B.A. and an MBA from Harvard, with honors.
