Jonah Goldberg of National Review Online had a good observation about the stimulus bill. He observed that all the political leaders kept repeating that we have to do something. Well, he wrote, if my house is on fire, throwing a bucket of gas on it is 'doing something' but I wouldn't advise it. Wouldn't it make sense to take some time to make sure we are doing something...that makes sense? Of course it would. But as Rahm Emanuel noted (in what he now probably looks on as a regrettable bout of candor) this administration doesn't want to waste this crisis.
