Who are we?

TechVentures is a group of MIT students that aims to bridge the communication gap between MIT entrepreneurs and VCs. We see opportunities for VCs to invest in seed stage startups, allowing them to gain large equity from small investments.

What makes us different?

We are a platform that stresses not just the business plan but also the idea – other competitions, such as the MIT $100k, evaluate based on the business plan. Good ideas, however, do not always start with the best business plan. Google, Facebook, YouTube are prime examples. We emphasize on mutual development. We believe that gaining mentorships from experienced VCs can really enhance the performance and success rate of seed stage startups.

What is your time commitment?

One judging event on March 8th when the startup companies and VCs congregate on MIT’s campus. VCs will pick their top three startup ideas to invest their time and money in. You are encouraged to attend the workshops during January 22-25. This is when VCs will get the chance to meet various student entrepreneurs with their start-up ideas or companies on campus through a series of seminars and networking events. We are also expecting you to establish a close relationship with the student entrepreneurs and provide mentorship and guidance for your top three picks.

What are the benefits?

TechVentures will provide an excellent opportunity for VC firms to promote name on an entrepreneurial ground such as MIT. It is also a great platform to meet rising entrepreneurs and see the newest developments in technology and venture capitalism. Your firm will be one of the first to learn about the latest technological breakthrough at MIT.
