Third Floor: Precocious Pasta Party

To celebrate the beginning of fall, join me and other third floor residents for a Precocious Pasta Party this Monday Oct. 5 from 8-9 pm. I'll provide you with 10 different varieties of pasta (all shapes and sizes), 4 freshly made sauces (red, white, pesto, and cheese), and other snacks and drinks. Mix and match to your heart's desire! Counseling/Mental Health Training/Mixer

Please join us for a counseling/mental health training session from Dr. Xiaolu Hsi (MIT Medical psychologist) next Monday, October 5th in the Hulsizer Room at Ashdown from 5-7 pm. Followed by the training, we will have an informal officer mixer from 7-8 pm with the goal of generating some ideas for how to improve the mental health safety net at MIT. There will be light snacks and refreshments available during the training and mixer (also at the Hulsizer). Palestinian Poetry Night

Anjad Hithnawi, Ashdown's Residential Scholar from Palestine, will be hosting a dinner and poetry reading followed by a discussion. Anjad will present a poem by Mahmoud Darwish bidding farewell to Edward Said. Both of them were two great Palestinian personalities. Mahmoud Darwish was one of the most renowned contemporary poets and Edward Said was a Palestinian American Scholar and intellectual who taught at Stanford, Harvard, Yale and Columbia. His fields of work included literary theory, comparative literature, post colonial studies, history and others. Edward Said died on September 25th, 2003 and this event will be a great way to recognize him and his work. Please sign-up here.
