WWII Talk with Dan Dimancescu

Monday, 8 December 2014 | 19:00 - 21:00 | Hulsizer Room

Description:
The documentary "Knights of the Sky" (2010), produced in collaboration with National Geographic, covers the air war over Romania between 1943 and 1944 and brings to light the human stories from both sides of the war. These include first hand recollections of those who were actively engaged as pilots in B-24s and Mustang P-51s. This documentary is one of three produced by Kogainon Films (Boston and Bucharest), under the theme of "Romania at War." The others covered WW-I and the Roman invasion of Dacia.
Of special interest is the famed Tidal Wave air raid of August 1, 1943, launched from Libya against Ploiești; and also the first-time encounter between two 'ace' pilots, General Dobran and Col. Davis, 66 years after they fought one another over Romania in 1944. The film reminds viewers, too, of the advanced state of Romanian air technology and production in the late 1930s based principally in Brașov.
The film was directed by Nicholas Dimancescu (1985-2011).
Speaker:
Dan Dimancescu has been the Honorary Consul of Romania since 2005. He currently owns and runs the Kogainon Films company (Boston and Bucharest). He founded a management consulting company serving Fortune 500 hi-tech corporations. He authored books on management and high technology policy, including two titles co-authored with Ray Stata, ex-Chairman of MIT Board of Trustees, founder and chairman of Analog Devices, and major sponsor of MIT's Computer Science facilities. He is an occasional faculty member at the Thayer School of Engineering and Tuck School at Dartmouth College; at BU School of Management; and the Institute for Management and Technology in France. He organized four expeditions for the National Geographic Magazine. He was a student at Dartmouth College, the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy and Harvard Business School.
